Course Structure and Teaching Requirements
- Each elective course requires 40 hours of classroom teaching
- Classes are typically spread across 10 weeks
- Faculty must provide 2 office hours per week for student interaction
- All courses are conducted in-person on campus
- Classes are scheduled between 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM on weekdays
- Most electives are held between 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM
- In special cases, classes may be conducted on Saturdays
- In exceptional situations, the course duration may be condensed to 4–6 weeks
Types of Elective Courses Offered
NLSIU offers diverse elective formats to suit different teaching approaches:
1. Taught Courses

2. Research Courses

- Leads to submission of a term paper
3. Practice/Clinical Courses

Support for Visiting Faculty
- Provision of an Academic Associate (subject to availability)
- Economy-class airfare reimbursement (domestic only)
- Accommodation support for up to 10 days initially
- Extended stay may be arranged on a paid basis, depending on availability
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- A graduate and postgraduate degree in Law or Social Sciences
- Minimum 3 years of post-qualification experience (preferred)
- Alternatively, 7–10 years of legal practice experience
- Strong academic or professional background
- Preference given to candidates with published research work
